Thunder Road Motorcycles and Completely Motoring Group join forces!

They say lightning never strikes twice, but it already has this year at Thunder Road Motorcycles. First, the dealership celebrated success at the Suzuki awards securing wins in three separate categories, this was followed by the joint announcement in early March that The Completely Motoring Group had acquired Thunder Road Motorcycles.

The merger sets out the next chapter for Thunder Road Motorcycles, whose Bridgend site opened its doors back in 1954, followed by the Cwmbran store in 2009 and Gloucestershire site in 2015.

The news marks the beginning of a new era for Completely Motoring Group and the acquisition supports its continued growth, expanding the company’s footprint and strengthening its multi-franchise status. The merger sees all three Thunder Road sites joining the Completely Motoring Group umbrella, which is managed by directors Rob, George and James Ayland.

This major expansion means the company can claim an impressive 1500 new and premium used motorcycles across ten retail sites. Outlets now stretch from North to South Wales as well as Worcestershire, Gloucestershire and Leicestershire locations, hosting many big-name motorcycle manufacturers, including Triumph, Ducati, Kawasaki, MV Agusta, Yamaha, and now newly acquired Honda, Suzuki, Indian, and Montesa brands.

James Ayland, group motorcycle sales director, said, “Completely Motorbikes are looking forward to working with the existing Thunder Road team to help this incredible venture go from strength to strength. My brother George and I have worked alongside our father Rob since leaving school. We have evolved Completely with its family values into an organisation that sells cars and motorbikes all over the UK, adding Honda and Indian Motorcycles to our other franchises.”

“Thunder Road Motorcycles has delivered a great and successful service to its customers for many years – as can be seen with its recent trio of awards. The aim is to continue this success through the support of the Completely Motoring Group, along with the support of its loyal customers, dedicated members of staff and its strong brand presence,” he added.

An emotional Dave Mobberley, managing director of Thunder Road Motorcycles, gave the following closing statement: “I am so proud of what we have achieved at Thunder Road and our involvement in the motorcycle community. We owe a huge thanks to all our customers, many of whom have been with us for more than 40 years. Our fantastic team of people at Thunder Road have been instrumental in the success we have achieved together. A huge thanks from myself and Dave Smith for all your efforts and loyalty. Although it’s a very emotional time for myself, I am so pleased to be handing the reigns over to Rob Ayland and his family at Completely Motorbikes. As a passionate family of motorcyclists, I know they will continue to look after our customers and staff as we have. It’s been a pleasure to have spent a lifetime in this industry, and I wouldn’t change a thing!”

As the two Dave’s exit centre stage of the motorcycle dealership network, they take with them much admiration and respect for their contribution to the industry from their peers who will always regard them as two of the nicest guys to do business with.
