V-Strom 800RE joins DE version

Suzuki has announced a new V-Strom 800RE model that will expand its adventure bike stable. In this case, the RE suffix probably stands for Road Explorer. While using the same engine and frame as its DE sibling, the RE has swapped spoked wheels and tubed tyres for more road-biased 19in and 17in cast aluminium wheels wearing Dunlop tubeless tyres.
Showa still provides the suspension, but focuses on delivering superior on-road performance. The 150mm of travel at the front and rear comes courtesy of preload-adjustable inverted front forks and a link-type mono shock adjustable for preload and rebound damping.

For comfort on the road, it comes with a seat height of 825mm, while aluminium, rubber-covered footpegs are set slightly further rearward and higher than on the V-Strom 800DE, and the aluminium tapered handlebars are lower and further forwards. They’re also narrower. A taller and wider screen offers more weather and wind protection on longer rides.

Beneath the screen is a 5in colour TFT display screen with all the navigation of menus and features done via a rocker switch on the left-hand handlebar. There’s also a handy USB port. A ride-by-wire throttle connection allows Suzuki’s low rpm assist and easy start function to be fitted, while a standard-fit bi-directional quick-shifter – allied to a slipper clutch – makes gear changes slick and seamless.

The V-Strom 800RE comes in Pearl Vigor blue, metallic matt steel green, and Glass Sparkle black. A full suite of genuine accessories will also be available, including a choice of three-piece aluminium or plastic luggage, heated grips, and a centre stand. The OTR price is £9699.
