Maxxis has announced details of its new Maxxcross MX-ST, a new motocross tyre designed with assistance from seven-time AMA Supercross champion Jeremy McGrath. The company claims the new hoops have “a new, lightweight, pliable carcass design yet strong construction and a uniquely-spaced tread block pattern that delivers superior stability, drive, and comfort, plus prolonged tyre life”. The performance improvements come from the new ply material, which exhibits lower elongation and resistance to deformation, a new sidewall which provides stronger vertical stiffness and a harder compound which uses reinforced carbon nanoparticles in the manufacturing process giving a claimed 19% improvement in grip, 33% greater stiffness and 4% more hardness.
The front tyre’s tread design is claimed to reduce chunking and increase braking grip and stability, while the rear’s gives better turning performance and increased grip and acceleration. The Maxxcross MX-ST comes in 80/100-21 and 110/90-19 sizes at and SRP of £133 a pair.
