Swiss lubricant brand Motorex launched a six-piece kit of some of its motorcycle care products late last year, which was a good excuse to give the BDN fleet some mid-winter care and try it out.
The Ride N’ Shine kit comes in a smart-looking display box in corporate colours, making it look upmarket and perfect as a gift. It includes a microfibre cloth plus five aerosols: a small 56ml refillable can of chain lube, a 500ml can of chain cleaner, a 500ml can of Motoshine, 200ml of foaming helmet and kit cleaner, and 200ml of Intact MX50 – a universal lubricant and corrosion protector.
The chain cleaner has a powerful narrow-angle spray action, blasting away a layer of greasy grime as it is applied. Leave it for a few minutes and then wiping off with a rag produced a nice clean chain, although a bit of a scrub with a brush might be needed for more stubborn bits or neglected chains. A little seemed to go a long way, and it has a pleasantly mild citrus odour, which is a bonus when working in a confined space.
After cleaning the chain, you need to get some lube on it fast, so Motorex has supplied a mini aerosol of fully-synthetic Road Chain Lube. This travel-size can is designed to be slipped into a jacket pocket or under the seat for on-the-go lubrication. Once emptied, the small aerosol can be refilled from a 500ml Motorex chain lube aerosol simply by removing their nozzles and pressing the exposed spigots together (no laughing at the back…).
Also in the kit is a can of Helmet & Gear Care, a biodegradable foaming spray cleaner for helmet liners and other hard to clean textiles, such as gloves. A quick squirt produced a fizzing foam that certainly sounded like it was doing something active, so I left it a few minutes before using a clean cotton cloth to wipe it off. It was hard to see much of a difference in cleanliness, but the helmet certainly smelt nicer, with a faint whiff of coconut.
Finally, we come to the Impact MX50, Motorex’s long-serving WD-40-alike spray that does everything from water dispersal, lubrication, corrosion prevention and eliminating squeaks. It’s got a twin nozzle spray – wide angle, or a more accurate target spray through a swappable straw.

Bike Shine is a post-cleaning spray which gives a gloss finish to bodywork when you are feeling too lazy to break out the carnauba wax to do the job properly. It can be sprayed on while the bike is still wet, as it disperses water, and it won’t cause problems if it gets on plastics, rubber or leather, though the brake discs need to be avoided for obvious reasons. Motorex says it is anti-static, making it ideal for bikes in showrooms, as they should stay dust free for longer.
The Ride N’ Shine kit’s box-set presentation and practical touches, like the refillable mini lube can, add to its usefulness and also make it ideal for gifting. And the £59.99 SRP saves a couple of quid over buying all the bits separately too, always a good selling point.
