Many budget middle weight bikes still come with damper rod forks. This design is cheap to make but harks back many decades. Performance is always a compromise, as there is no separation of high & low speed damping. This can give harshness over rough surfaces or a mushy feel on smooth roads.

YSS Fork Caps with Pre-load
Larsson have fantastic YSS Fork Caps with preload adjustment. The key benefit is adding these can help set the correct suspension sag, according to rider weight/ bike loading. This in turn will help optimise suspension performance & give the best steering response.
The Fork Caps are made in precision machined aluminium. As well as adding functionality, they will enhance the looks of any bike. We have bike specific versions, but we’ve also created an ‘Advanced Search’ feature, allowing you to match dimensions to find a suitable fitment for many other bikes.

YSS Fork Valves
Damper rod forks are always a compromise between getting the ideal damping response on high and low speed suspension motion. This can lead to a ‘basic’ feel, appearing harsh over bumps &/or ‘mushy’ on smooth roads. YSS fork valves add a progressive action to the damping allowing forks to respond to high-speed movement (like hitting a pothole) while giving a controlled feel during gentle travel. This gives the fork a taut feel without loss of comfort. And allowing the fork to respond correctly to different surfaces keeps the tyre on the road reducing braking distances and improving steering feel.
The valves come in sizes suitable for many fork tubes and fit between the damper rod and fork spring, and it is normally necessary to enlarge the compression orifice of the damper rod when fitting. The valves come preset according to the fork size, but fine-tuning on the valve is possible.
