BEST-EVER BIKE RESULTS FOR BMW

BMW Motorrad has unveiled record financial performances for the second quarter and first half of 2014.

In the three months covering April to June, the brand’s revenue from motorcycles grew by 11.2 per cent to £420.5m. related operating profit was up by 19.6 per cent to £43.8m. Global retail bike sales increased by 5.1 per cent to a new second-quarter record of 42,259 units.

In the first half of the year, BMW Motorrad revenue improved by 9.8 per cent to £796.4m. Operating profit stacked on 22.7 per cent at £94.8m. Retail sales volume increased by 9.3 per cent to 70,978 units.

On the basis of these figures, the company’s bike manufacturing operation has enjoyed the best six-month period in its entire 90-year history. However, they pale into insignificance compared to BMW Group results as a whole. Overall first-half revenue was up by 2.8 per cent to £30.38bn. Operating profit gained 14.4 per cent to £3.74bn. Net profit climbed by 19.6 per cent to £2.57bn.
