Harley-Davidson is recalling 2016-2019 Street models with potentially defective brakes. It has informed the US National Highway Traffic Safety Administration that the brake calipers on some 12,871 of these entry-level bikes sold in America are susceptible to salt-induced internal corrosion. The recall affects XG500, XG750 and XG750A machines. The free-of-charge fix involves replacement of both front and rear calipers with upgraded items.
The US-market Street range is assembled at domestic plants using component kits from Harley’s Bawal factory in India, where Street production for the rest of the world — including European countries — is concentrated. Presumably the same problem will lead to recalls in all those export markets too.
