EUROPEAN BIKE REGISTRATIONS RECOVER

According to data from European industry association ACEM, motorcycle and scooter registrations in Europe’s five largest national markets (France, Germany, Italy, Spain and the UK) rose by 7.8% to a total of 949,400 in 2021 — about 80% of all European registrations.

Italy topped the pile, growing by 23.6% to a total of 269,600 machines. France was runner-up, putting on 8.5%  to 206,950. But while Germany took third spot thanks to a tally of 199,100, that volume actually represented a decline of 9.7% versus 2020. The Spanish and UK markets grew by 8% and 10.2% respectively.

Moped registrations in the six biggest markets monitored by ACEM (Belgium, France, Germany, Italy, the Netherlands and Spain) fell by 5.6% to 264,800.

Commenting on these figures, ACEM secretary general Antonio Perlot said: “For motorcycle, scooter and moped registrations combined, the key European markets have grown continuously between 2019 and 2021. And each segment had a higher number of registrations in 2021 than in 2019.”
