The Koelnmesse venue and Germany’s motorcycle industry association IVM were forced to pull the plug on their biennial Intermot international trade fair in 2020 due to the Covid pandemic. But now the event is scheduled for revival after a four-year hiatus on 4-9 October 2022.

Billed as Europe’s first big motorcycle, scooter and e-bike show of the year, by upstaging EICMA Milan on dates, the organisers are also implementing “a future-oriented concept” to add a spot of sparkle and further develop its position as an international business destination. In other words, sticking it to the Italians whenever possible is name of the game.

A list of major industry exhibitors due in Cologne has already gone public, featuring Europe-wide aftermarket and dealer tech suppliers like BIHR, Kellermann, Matthies, Rukka and Wunderlich, plus lube brands such as Motorex and Motul. Among OE manufacturers, Honda, Triumph and Zero are early confirmations.

And BMW Motorrad Deutschland head Michael Sommer has indicated that his brand will be among them too. Previously, BMW Group had said that its new model launches would henceforth focus on digital communications rather than a corporate presence for tyre-kicking at shows. But now everybody is learning to live with Covid, that notion has been quietly shelved.

“As a German motorcycle manufacturer with a long history, the entire BMW Motorrad team naturally has a great interest in presenting our brand and products to Intermot visitors,” enthused Sommer. “We are therefore looking forward to meeting our customers and motorcycle fans in person again and celebrating motorcycling together.”
