lorenzo swaps hjc for shark helmet

Jorge Lorenzo has signed a three-year partnership with the French-made Shark helmet brand one month after he and HJC parted company following a series of public disagreements.

Spain’s triple MotoGP World Champion will be wearing the Race-R PRO, which has over 150 podiums to its credit.

Korean brand HJC Helmet fell out with its lead rider from Mallorca over the controversy that surrounded the end of the 2015 MotoGP World Championship. The company said it was unhappy with Lorenzo’s thumbs-down gesture at Valentino Rossi on the Sepang MotoGP podium after Rossi’s clash with Marc Marquez and for declaring that the subsequent three penalty points was an inadequate punishment. He also tried to become involved in the Court of Arbitration for Sport’s hearing into Rossi’s appeal against the penalty, though he was limited to submitting a written statement.

The final straw is said to be when Lorenzo neglected to wear a special “World Champion” helmet, as now customary for newly crowned champions. The special helmet was a commemorative helmet with the number one on it.

Lorenzo’s earlier complaints about his helmet in Qatar (plastic above the brow fell down) and Silverstone (visor misting) did not help the relationship.
