Sammy Miller rides with Marquez, meets Rossi

Sammy Miller and his museum’s AJS Porcupine were well received at the Valencia MotoGP, where the 83-year-old ex-trials champion enjoyed riding parade laps in the company of three-time MotoGP title-winner Marc Marquez. The exhibition ride-out was part of the build-up to the last race of the season which was attended by more than 100,000 spectators.

Apart from his time with Marquez, Miller also met Valentino Rossi and Jorge Lorenzo.

MotoGP rights owner Dorna Sports looked after Miller and his race mechanic, John Ring, and they thoroughly enjoyed their visit to the great Spanish circuit. Miller was riding a 1949 AJS Porcupine, so named because of the needle-like cooling fins on the twin cylinder heads. The machine was prepared by Bob Stanley and his team in the museum restoration workshop.  The Sammy Miller Museum, based at Bashley, won the MCN Museum of the Year Award in 2009 and 2016.
