All revved up and raving about the brand

When a serious accident terminated the racing career of Phill Simmonds 17 years ago he decided to set up an online business selling clothing, parts and accessories.

Just over four years ago Simmonds decided to supplement his successful All Revved Up website with a physical dealership, based in Ystradgynlais in the Swansea Valley, selling used hyper-sportsbikes and, at the other end of the scale, Lexmoto’s small-capacity Chinese-made motorcycles and scooters.

He reports healthy sales in both areas, and is full of praise for the “bullet-proof” commuter machines distributed by importer Lexeter of Exeter in Devon.

“They are fantastic little bikes,” says Simmonds, who is selling scores of the 50cc and 125cc range every year. “In fact, the business has grown so quickly that we are now occupying our third premises.

“We probably make a lot more money selling Lexmoto than we would with Suzuki or Yamaha.

“As for motorcycles sales this year, it’s difficult for me to say. With Lexmoto you can sell eight or nine per week, split almost equally between pleasure and commuting.”

Simmonds looks after motorcycles sales and the workshop – plus, with his racing connections, he also prepares competition machines – while his partner Nicky runs the retail shop and they both look after the online operation.
