Mark Skinner of Cardiff Motorcycle Centre reports buoyant sales this year and is run off his feet. He told our Trade Talk correspondent: “A fellow dealer said to me the other day that it’s time to batten down the hatches. That’s just the sort of remark I don’t want to hear. In effect, that dealer was making or looking for excuses.
“I started the business back in 1999 and am quite buoyant about sales this year, though I’m so busy I don’t know whether I am coming or going at times. I’m just back from a good buying and selling trip to Herts, Kent and Essex and that’s what’s making it work at the moment – getting out there and putting the hours in.
“The downside at this time of the year is I’m keeping the workshop so busy its struggling to cope – a nice problem to have.”
Skinner had a Yamaha small-bike franchise but decided it wasn’t for him.
