Energica debuts Experia adventure bike

Battery powered bikes still seem to be at their best as short-range urban machines at the moment. But fair play to Italian electric superbike firm Energica for having a go at more serious EV bike designs. It’s just released the new Experia adventure machine, using the firm’s electric powertrain platform, as pioneered on the various supersport and supernaked models it’s produced up till now.

The Experia looks like a considered attempt at a battery-powered mount to take on the likes of the BMW R1250 GS and Ducati Multistrada. It’s got a frankly enormous 22.5kW/h battery capacity with a 101bhp peak power output motor, and claims an urban range of 261 miles – though this drops to 130 miles on the more normal extra-urban range. Recharging via a special DC fast charger can get you from 0-80% in 40 minutes – not ideal when compared with petrol machinery, but not horrendous either.

The Experia looks good, with a slick Multistrada-like design, and premium running gear. It obviously comes in at the high end of the price range: around £25k for the top-end edition – but with the cost of fuel as it is, and existing high-end ADV models hitting the £20k mark, that might well make sense for some customers.
