thieves steal 12 of 14 machines from showroom

Thieves have all but cleared out a dealership, stealing 12 of the 14 motorcycles from the showroom.

BVM Moto, of Woodchester, near Stroud, was targeted overnight on 31 October. Ten petrol-engined bikes, two electric bikes and two cycle-trials bikes were taken.

Co-owner John ‘Laurence’ Luff said stolen motorcycle gloves had been left strewn across a small exit to the cycle track behind the premises. “They got in through the front door, cut padlocks,” he said. “They have taken all the bikes bar two – a 2018 Gas Gas 300 and 2018 Sherco 300 which had hefty locks on them.”

Two 2018 models – a Beta Evo 300 and a TRS 250cc – were among the stolen machines, alongside eight other secondhand bikes, two electric Oset models and Jitsie cycle trials bikes.

The new bikes were each worth between £5500 and £6000 and the secondhand bikes anywhere between £1500 to £4000 each.

The motorcycles stolen were:

Three Shercos – two 250s, from 2014 and 2016, plus a 300cc model from 2016; two TRS – one from 2017 and one from 2018 (250cc); three Betas – two 250s from 2010 and 2017 and a Beta 2018 300cc; Montesa 4rt 2005; Gas Gas 2005 280cc; and two Osets – a 16.0 Racing and 20.0 Racing, both 2017 models.

The trials cycles were a Jitsie Varial 20″ and a Jitsie Varial Mini.

A large selection of Wulf Gloves and £500 in cash was also taken.

The shop has been associated with the trials world since the early 1970s.

BVM Moto started life in Slad Road, Stroud, under different ownership, before moving across town to London Road, Bowbridge in the late 1990s. The shop has operated from Merrett’s Mill, Woodchester, since 2014.

After BVM Moto went out of business early in 2014, longstanding employees Rick Ferrier and John “Laurence” Luff established an all-new company and bought the BVM name which is so familiar to trials riders across the country.

The main focus of the business is mail order – the BVM website has more than 1500 stock lines and is being updated all the time – but the premises in Woodchester has a counter to serve walk-in customers who are welcome to talk trials.
