Michelin Road 5

French tyre giant Michelin has revealed a new nomenclature for the replacement to the Pilot Road 4. The new sport-touring Road 5 is claimed to provide more wet weather grip and shorter braking distances than its predecessor – even when with 3000 miles use compared with a new pair of Pilot Road 4s. The wet-weather performance is credited to the use of XST Evo sipes (small narrow grooves in the tread) designed to cut through surface water and improve water clearance, while improved performance in dry conditions is thanks to the tyre’s dual-compound tread and new rubber compounds. Available in two front and five rear 17in road sizes, plus two front and two rear sizes in Trail specification for adventure bikes. Prices will be released in the new year.
