dealer praises 'demanding' honda

Honda UK has been celebrating its most loyal dealerships, handing out awards to a host of partners celebrating anything between 25 and 55 years’ service. In our April issue we featured three of six dealers who have been recognised for 55 years’ service – Crewe Honda, Padgett’s of Batley and Bob Minion of Derby.

In the June issue we will be speaking with the remaining three award recipients – Tippetts Motors of Surbiton, Lings of Ipswich, and J S Gedge, which has three branches in East Sussex (at Hastings, Pevensey and St Leonards-on-Sea), which as well as celebrating its 55-year award as a Honda dealer is also marking 120 years in business.

Here’s a taster.

Llings Honda is perhaps the oldest firm now selling Honda, starting out more than a century and a half ago as a family blacksmith business in Suffolk. Since then it’s grown into a chain of Honda car and bike dealerships across East Anglia.

Director Paul Barkshire told BDN how the relationship with Honda works today. “Honda is demanding of its dealers and challenges every element of our business – most of it is a good thing. Compared with the ‘old days’ the business has become more impersonal and relationships are different, but that is due to the brave new world we live in and the speed at which everything now happens.

“We, as a dealer, have been passionate about the brand and its superb quality for so long – that’s why we sell every product Honda produce and I believe we are the only dealer in the UK to do so,” said Barkshire. “We have always loved the special ethos of Honda and its core values.

“The partnership is strong and the relationship we have with Honda is to challenge, question and be inquisitive, and support making our businesses stronger. In motorcycle terms we are very excited about this year: we look forward to seeing the new products and the future looks bright with Honda.”
