specialist dealership shuts after owner retires

Italian and classic bike specialist North Leicester Motorcycles has closed following the retirement of its owner, Stuart Mayhew.

The business, opened in 1973, closed on 15 December.

NLM was best known for its involvement with Moto Morini, which it had handled since the days when the iconic 3 1/2 350cc V-twins were imported by Harglo, run in a partnership between Wilf Harrison and Peter Glover, both formerly of BSA.

As well as NLM, early Moto Morini dealers included the Kart House, Darlington; Jim Morgan, Neath, Glamorgan; Rugby Motors, Ashford, Kent; Devimead, Tamworth.

NLM bought all Harglo’s remaining stock of spares in early 1995.

NLM’s Morini spares will in future be handled by Mdina Italia of Shipley, and sales and service have been taken on by Lusso Veloce, Ellistown.
